2020

[EN]: Objective:To determine the molecular functions of genes exhibiting altered expression in the endometrium of women with uterine disorders affecting fertility. Design: Retrospective analysis integrating case and control data from multiple cohorts with endometrium gene expression in women with uterine disorders. Setting: Infertility research department affiliated with a university hospital. Patient(s): Two hundred and forty women, 121 of whom were controls, 119 of whom had endometrial adenocarcinoma (ADC), recurrent implantation failure (RIF), recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), or stage II–IV endometriosis. Intervention(s): None. Main Outcome Measure(s): Genomewide gene expression and alter…

Why reg. (eu) no. 1103/2016 and 1104/2016 impact on the european citizens daily life?

2021

Why families do need the tools and instruments implemented by PSEFS Project? Why this is not an issue for lawyers, judges and University professors only. The answer to this question is that Reg. (EU) no. 1103/2016 and no. 1104/2016 impact on the European citizens daily life. We follow the problems of a young couple in order to have a better understanding and an evidence of this statement.

La nueva oportunidad de la hipoteca inversa

2021

The reverse mortgage is a credit or loan guaranteed by a mortgage that falls on the applicant?s habitual residence, granted at once, or through periodic benefits, to a person who must be over a certain age or prove a degree of disability or dependency, and is not due until the time of death. In view of the doubts that the future of the public pension is raising and the concentration of savings in Spanish property, the reverse mortgage is once again being put on the table as a viable alternative to complement a public pension with little revaluation, in view of the increase in life expectancy and expenses after retirement.

Doctrina.

Different types of intestinal atresia in identical twins

2008

The authors present a previously unreported association of different types of intestinal atresia in identical low-birth-weight twins. Both babies were affected by duodenal atresia, associated in the first case with a complete mucosal duodenal membrane and in the second one with an "apple-peel" jejunal atresia. These occurrences may suggest that they were either the consequence of linkage of 2 genes or a pleiotropic expression of a single gene responsible for such rare conditions.

Short-term therapy for recurrent abortion using intravenous immunoglobulins: Results of a double-blind placebo-controlled Italian study

1997

It is still unclear whether i.v. immunoglobulins (Ig) can facilitate the reproductive prognosis of women who have suffered recurrent pregnancy loss. We report the results of a multicentre placebo-controlled study on the effect of Ig administration on pregnancy outcome in 46 women who had suffered at least three recurrent miscarriages. All were screened to exclude chromosomal or Müllerian abnormalities, the presence of antinuclear antibodies, lupus anticoagulant (LA) or elevated titres of anticardiolipin antibodies which may have revealed an underlying autoimmune problem. To avoid a selection bias towards ongoing pregnancies, i.v. Ig or placebo were administered between weeks 5 and 7 of gest…

FISH screening of aneuploidies in preimplantation embryos to improve IVF outcome

2005

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) has transformed the approach to the infertility patient in the IVF setting. Although the principal applications of PGD have been to prevent the transmission of sex-linked diseases, in time and with growing knowledge of the chromosomal abnormalities observed in preimplantation embryos, its applications have widened. Nowadays, apart from its implications in the prevention of transmission of chromosomal and genetic abnormalities, PGD is being used with increased frequency to improve the IVF outcome in patients with advanced maternal age (or =38 years of age), recurrent miscarriage (or =2 miscarriages), recurrent IVF failure (or =3 failed IVF attempts) an…

Two complementary recombinant chromosomes 5 in a healthy woman

2005

We report a healthy woman with two abortions who is a carrier for a rare heterozygous double recombinant of an inv(5) chromosome, karyotype 46,XX,rec(5)dup(5p) inv(5)(pl 3q22),rec(5)dup(5q)inv(5)(pl 3q22). Her father had a 46,XY,inv(5)(p13q22) karyotype; his consanguineous wife had died. Molecular investigation of 11 highly polymorphic markers spanning chromosome 5 revealed biparental inheritance for two markers (D5S406, D5S681) on 5p15.3 and 5q13.1, and an allele constellation not compatible with paternal heterodisomy for marker D5S623 on 5q11.2. Eight markers were not informative. Three mechanisms of formation are proposed: First, fertilization of a normal oocyte by a sperm carrying the t…

Y chromosome microdeletions, sperm DNA fragmentation and sperm oxidative stress as causes of recurrent spontaneous abortion of unknown etiology.

2010

Background The aim of the present study was to evaluate the implication of male factor, in terms of sperm DNA oxidation and fragmentation, and Y chromosome microdeletions in recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) of unknown origin in a strictly selected cohort. Methods A prospective cohort study was carried out in a private university-affiliated setting. Three groups, each comprised of 30 males, were compared. The first was formed by healthy and fertile sperm donors (SD) with normal sperm parameters (control group), the second by men presenting severe oligozoospermia (SO) without RSA history, and the third by men from couples who had experienced idiopathic RSA. Frequency of Y chromosome micro…
